OLD FOLKS

Yesterday’s generation, which my grandmother is in, always gets to say what they want. My problem with this is that they grew up on RESPECT. So since they grew up on RESPECT don’t you think they would be a little more RESPECT-ful of the generation that is their future. So many times I find myself biting my tongue because some “Old-timer” has the right to say what they want. Well, I have come to the point where I am no longer biting my tongue except for with family members and close family friends. These are the people that I will give full RESPECT to. If an elderly person comes up to me and says something random about how to carry myself, I will let them know that my mother did a fine job raising me and so please don’t try and interrupt. Now you may say that is not very RESPECT-ful but guess what I don’t really care. IN ORDER TO GET RESPECT, YOU HAVE TO GIVE RESPECT .”

Today, I had a scenario that I encountered where I politely asked someone, with more years than me in life, to stop doing some annoying habit that they were doing; and they QUICKLY responded, “It’s a free country.” I understand we are in a free country but in this country and many other countries, I would imagine, when you are at work and you are disturbing the peace, you should be RESPECT-ful of those around you and cease if asked nicely.

Growing up, especially in middle school, I was known to “Challenge Authority,” and it got me in a whole lot of trouble. After about time # 17, I learned my lesson to think before I speak. Something someone told me along the way was that we were blessed with 2 EARS and 1 MOUTH, meaning we should listen twice as much as we talk. After, constantly getting in trouble I began to just quiet down with a lot of things. So now days when I snap on someone, people don’t know that to be in my character and so they think EXTREMELY NEGATIVELY of me immediately. Well, I have learned during my tenure at the MECCA that not “Challenging Authority” will get you NOWHERE. It is all about how you do the challenging…
